What numerology actually does
Numerology is the practice of treating numbers as descriptors of character and life pattern. Pythagoras — the same one from the geometry theorem — taught that numbers carry qualities, not just quantities. Modern Western numerology builds on that idea: each digit from 1 to 9 maps to a posture in the world, and the numbers hidden in your birth date and birth name describe how you tend to move.
The two core numbers most readings start with are the Life Path and the Expression. The Life Path comes from your date of birth. It's the path you're here to walk — the lesson, the pattern, the shape your life keeps trying to take. The Expression Number comes from the letters of your full birth name. It describes your natural talents and the medium through which you tend to show up: leading, building, communicating, caring, analyzing, mentoring.
The two numbers are not in competition. The Life Path is the trail; the Expression is the vehicle you drive on it. People whose Life Path and Expression line up tend to feel on-mission early.
